Truck/Sled/Human Drags are insane.
Easily one of the greatest exercises you're not doing for leg strength and general conditioning.
These have been used by strongman competitors for years as a part of their "dynamic effort" days
(think jumps, and explosive moves, not heavy lifting)
This old school method is amazing for adding size to your quads...
...without adding a ton of stress to your spine.
Which, if you've ever dealt with back pain during squats or deadlifts, this is GREAT news.
Here's why:
when you pull a truck/sled/human you're only doing the concentric part of the movement.
That means there's no negative (lowering) part of the move, which is the part that leaves you sore & beat up.
So you're doing consistent movement, putting a ton of blood into your quads, not getting any rest all while building strength and resilience through your knees, hips and ankles.
Here's how I would implement these:
If you're doing a leg day 1x per week, use these as a finisher at the very end. Shoot for 3 sets of about 50-100 yards.
Something that will take you about 90-120 sec per set.
If you're doing a leg day 2x per week (or 1 leg day and one full body day) add it on the 2nd day.
Sleds are the easiest but if you have a training partner I love doing this back and forth.
Wrap a band around their waist and have them drag you, while you provide resistance.
PRO TIP: look deep into their eyes and smile manically while pulling them. Don't show any weakness.
PRO PRO TIP: While staring at them in a disconcerting manner, start singing Miley Cyrus "Party in the USA" as loud as possible.
If you have back or knee pain this can be a safe way of still crushing your legs.
Plus the cardio and conditioning you get from this is wild.
Try it and let me know what you think.
If you do this, drop me a note and let me know how it's been going
Talk soon,
Nate
p.s. if you're gonna be training hard make sure you have some FastAid BCAAs before training to ensure you are building muscle and recovering better.
